A file comment can be set in the
Data=>Data Exchange (Document) and Data=>Data Exchange (Page)
dialog box. The comment can be displayed using the @{legend_table}
field function. The display order of the data files can be modified as well.
File attributes of more than one data file can be displayed in a page
using placeholders in this format $File_x.attname$ for example:
$File2:engineno$ to display the attribute engineno of the second file.
Edit Formula: A formula can be modified using the
Tools=>Formulalist or via a right mouse click in the data browser
on a formula channel. See also Formula Interpreter 1 - Introduction.
Formula-Interpreter: Channels with different time rasters (e.g. 10 Hz, 100 Hz)
can be used in formulas for MDF files (INCA), Famos files and ASAM-ODS
Record files. The channels are interpolated onto the time base of
the first data channel. See Formula Interpreter 1 - Introduction.
ExcelRead3: The function has been extended. The function can
return the number format and time/date format. To control the return value, a new
parameter has been added. The new function is used by the Excel import filter.
New Options: 2D Bars can be plotted above the grid lines. The autoscale
function can add extra space so that the curve does not start or end on the
diagram border. The options can be set globally in the Tools=>More Options
dialog box in the group "Diagram".
LayerAutoScale: The labels will be displayed in exponential notation
only for values greater than 1e10.
Addin 3D Classification of a XYZ-Dataset: The classification results
are written to the Windows clipboard as well. The data can be inserted into other
documents, e.g. Excel.
Reading and Writing of MATLAB files (see Overview MATLAB Files).
Import of MATLAB files (see Import of MATLAB Data Files).
The structure of UniScript Objects can be displayed in the command window: * o = [. val = 1.2, imag = 1+2i, test="Hello"]
* o
[.
imag = 1+2i
test = "Hello"
val = 1.2
]
object (obj at 0xF45BE4)
DialogBox: New combo box to select color, symbols or line styles.
File=>More File Functions=>Data-Table: New function to create data tables:
Updates User Interface
So far only 32 colors could be defined. 16 fixed colors (the so called
VGA colors) and 16 user defined colors.
In UniPlot 5.10.0 168 colors are defined. The first 16 colors are the old
VGA colors, followed by 16 user defined ()colors and the new colors
taken from the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) standard.
The Event Window can be set to auto hide or can be docked to the bottom
or top of the window. The new docking mechanism uses small markers to indicate
sides where the bar can be dragged and docked.
In Full screen mode the main menu is displayed.
The Rich-Text-Format (RTF) editor has been removed.
The number of commands in the User-Toolbar no longer limited to 32.
The Font Combo Box displays the font names using the corresponding font.
OLE-Objects can not be activated in place any longer. For better stability
the application is started in a separate window.
New function to add a popup menu (see MnInsertPopup).
Improved handling of large datasets with millions of data points.
The time to open the data browser for large data files has been reduced.
Extended function to insert objects from clipboard into a UniPlot page.
The user can choose the format the data is inserted into UniPlot.
3D Classification of a XYZ-Dataset: Modified dialog box to select
channels. The number of decimal places of the table output can be specified.
Import of DIAdem files: To reduce memory usage text data file (ASCII)
are processed in chunks.
ASAM-ODS Browser (RPC): New command to search for tests has been
added. It can search for tests in a date range (e.g. Tests of the last 10
days) and/or for attribute values using wildcards (e.g. iName LIKE 'x12*').
New Command File=>Export Data to convert NC files into other formats.
Choose File=>More File-Functions=>Export (Convert NC data files)...
to execute the command.
New command Edit=>Insert Table Of Contents.
Right click on the document tab and choose Create/Update TOC to insert
a Table of Contents to the active document.
Savitzky-Golay-Filter: A low-pass filter which is useful for smoothing data.
smooth_sgolay(nPolyOrder, nWindow, PeakFilterFactor)
With the help of the optional parameter PeakFilterFactor peaks
can be preserved in the filtered signal.

smooth(nNeighbor, PeakFilterFactor)
The optional parameter PeakFilterFactor has been added to the smooth
function (moving average) as well.
See also Filter Functions for XY datasets.
New function to create compressor maps (3D: Compressor-Map x/y/z/speed):
4 channels must be specified for a compressor map e.g. x = air flow,
y = pressure ratio, z = efficiency, speed = wheel rotation speed.
The coordinates of the x/y/z channels are used to create the efficiency map.
The speed channel is used to sort the x/y data and create curves of constant
speed. The curves are labeled with the rounded speed value and are used
to find the surge limit and pump limit.
See also File=>Import Data.
Data=>Data Exchange (Page): If the original data file does not exist
and the NC-file is still available, a message box will be displayed
asking if the NC file should be used instead.
The data exchange function Data=>Data Exchange (Page) now supports the
the dataset types (2D: x/y Cycle und 2D: X/y Cycle-Index) (Waterfall diagram).
The data of the compressor map can be exchanged as well. The datasets must be
loaded with UniPlot 5.8.0. Datasets loaded with older versions are not supported.
Label data points with a text channel: For the dataset type
2D: X/Y/Label a text channel (char) can be used for the label channel.
The data exchange of this dataset type is supported.
Import/Export of TDM Files: The attributes
wf_increment and wf_start_offset are converted into the UniPlot NC
attribute XStart_XDelta. This is useful when importing 1D: y/t channels.
UTX-Import Filter: If the channel names are given in the form Name [unit]
and no other units are specified, the names will be split into channel
name and unit. Example: Torq [Nm] will be split in the channel name
Torq and the unit Nm.
Splitting can be disabled with the following command:
WriteProfileInt("Settings", "UTX_Split_Name_Unit", 0)
See UniPlot Data File Format Specification.
MDF-Import: The MDF file attribute Text will be split into
separate attributes. If a text line contains a colonm, the text before the
colon will be used as the attribute name and the text behind the colon as
the attribute value.
Tools=>Dataset Style Order Configuration: The new key word Curve
has been added to the dialog box. If you choose Curve in the color column,
the first curve will be displayed in the first color, the second curve in the
second color and so on.
A data preview of a selected data channel can
be displayed. Choose File=>Import Data and click on the >> button.
The preview diagram will display the data over the point index starting with 1.
Missing values will not be displayed.
This function can be used to magnify a visible
part of a diagram in a separate diagram. The selected section (lens) can be moved
and resized using the mouse or the arrow-keys. The magnifying diagram can be fixed
to its position or moved with the selected section.
New command to create a table displaying the cursor data.
Searches for a string and replaces it with another in all open IPW documents.
The delayed loading is available for MDF and TDM files. If the
open "Delayed Channel Import" is enabled (default) (see Tools=>More Options),
the channel data will be loaded when the data is accessed for the first time.
This improves the import significantly. For example, if an MDF file contains
400 channels and only 8 channels are of interest, the import is 50 times faster.
The Delayed loading is only available for MDF/INCA and TDM files. The Delayed
loading will be added to other formats in the next versions (for example
ASAM-ODS).
Delayed loading has no advantage in file size for standard netCDF files. The
new netCDF-up files are significantly smaller.
A new alternative file format has been added for netCDF files (netCDF-up) with a
number of advantages
Advantages of netCDF-up
Normally when attributes or channels are added, modified or removed, the
complete file must be copied. This is not necessary for netCDF-up files,
resulting in much higher performance of these operations.
Stability: In standard netCDF files the nc_abort() funciton cannot
be used to rewind modifications. If a number of changes are executed and one
modification fails because of power failer, a network problem or a software bug
the complete file is destroyed. In netCDF-up files, all modifications made
since teh last call of nc_sync can be undone.
Reduced file size because parts of the file are saved compressed. The following
table compares the file size of three typical MDF/INCA files with netCDF- and
netCDF-up files (all values in kBytes):
|
File |
Orginal (MDF/VS100) |
netCDF (Original) |
netCDF-up |
|
File small |
11 |
17 |
12 |
|
File medium |
934 |
1426 |
453 |
|
File big |
13727 |
33883 |
4271 |
Sometimes (for exampel pure random numbers) netCDF-up files can be bigger than
netCDF fiels. But this is a rare.
No Limitation in size - no 2 GBytes limit.
The upcoming UniPlot version 6.0 (2008) will use the same file format used for
netCDF-up files (see Overview UPDF Files). This makes it simple
to embed netCDF-up files in the IPW files of UniPlot 6.0. It will be possible
to edit datasets using the standard browser.
See also Overview netCDF Files. The new format for netCDF files can be
enabled in the Tools=>More Options dialog box.
New options can be added to the new Tools=>More Options dialog box. Options
for addins and user functions can be added to the dialog box. See
option_add).
ASAM-ODS Browser (RPC): Submatrices can be merged into one data file.
The dialog box displayes a channel list of the selected sub matrix with
the data for the first record.
New addin to Import TCM files (TestCellManager file format of FEV GmbH).
See Import of TCM Data Files.
New addin to save and select data files, see NC-Explorer.
The maximum number of groups in netCDF files is no longer limited to
100. The new maximum is set to 1000 groups (time groups; each group can have a
different number of data points with a diffrent resolution). The number
of channels per file is set to 10000; in the past it was limited to 8192. See also
Application Limits.
Two new flags have been added for updf_create_file:
UPDF_AUTOREPACK and UPDF_ZLIB_COMPRESSION.
A double click of the page tab opens the (View=>Goto Page) dialog box.
New function to split an IPW document with multiple pages into multiple
IPW documents with a single page, see (File=>More File Functions=>Split Documents).
The commandFile=>More File Functions=>Merge Documents can be used
to merge pages into one document.
Up to version 4.2.x UniPlot used an 8 bit character set. Beginning
with UniPlot 5 UniPlot uses Unicode (see http://www.unicode.org and
http://www.unicode.org/standard/WhatIsUnicode.html).
Two new Addins to access ASAM-ODS databases have been added to UniPlot 5.0.
See ASAM-ODS Browser (RPC) and ASAM-ODS Browser (CORBA)).
Text objects and table objects have been extended by automatic word wrap.
Text clipping has been added to text objects.
Improved batch mode: If UniPlot is set to batch mode the display of dialog
and message boxes is suppressed (see AppSetBatchMode). Error messages are
written to a log file (see log_error).
In stacked diagrams clipping of single y axis can be switched on or off.
(Default: clipping is off). See Stacked Diagrams with Multiple Y-Axes.
The axis title position can be modified using the mouse. To switch on
this option, double click on the axis title and set the option "Free Position"
in the Position and Size dialog page.
Polar-Diagram: The drawing direction can be set clockwise or
counter-clockwise. The angle origin can be set relative to the 3 o'clock position.
See Diagram=>Layout=>Polar.
DialogBox: The dialog template can contain radio buttons.
UTX-Import: The filter is not an addin any longer. It will be loaded
at start up.
New Addin "Map-Calculator". See Map Calculator.
The file format (.ipw) has been changed in UniPlot 5.
UniPlot 5 can read all former UniPlot file formats, but older UniPlot versions cannot
read the UniPlot 5 file format. Some safety have been built in to prevent
problems with the new format:
If you open a UniPlot 4 file with UniPlot 5
you will be warned if you want to save this file with UniPlot 5. You can save the file
under a different name to make sure that the original file can continue to be
opened by UniPlot 4.
If you try to open a UniPlot 5 file with UniPlot 4 you will get a message
box that this file has been created by a newer version. The file can then be
opened by the current UniPlot Viewer.
